The Omega 3 in fish oil supplements is most likely the best brain food you can find.

Sure, the brain does need other foods also. It needs protein, because protein is used to build tissue, cells and organs.  And protein is needed to make neurotransmitters that can carry signals from one neuron to other neurons.

Carbohydrates are needed because carbohydrate helps the absorption of tryptophan. And this converts into serotonin in the brain, and will produce a calming effect. Our digestive system breaks down the carbohydrates into glucose, or sugar. This sugar is used by the brain for energy. When our sugar level gets too low we will experience dizziness and confusion. It can even cause convulsions and/or unconsciousness.

And, of course vitamins and minerals are important too.

But our Brain consists mainly of Fat.
